poza art roxanaThe temperature is dropping and the air is getting drier. In just a few weeks the time will come to air out your winter wardrobe and you need to start adjusting your beauty regimen. The chilly run-up to Christmas can dry out your skin, so it’s wise to start thinking about those heavy-duty moisturizers and lip balms before fine wrinkles begin to appear. Your first point of call should be your skin and hair care routine, so out with the old and in with the new!

As warm weather fades, follow these easy steps to ensure that your beauty doesn’t:

 Hair

Get a haircut to trim away damage done by the sun, and salt and chlorinated water. This is also the perfect time to start nourishing your ends  in order to prevent the damage winter can do. To avoid brittle and dry hair, apply a deep conditioning hair mask every week or so.

 Skin

Cold, dry air leads to build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, resulting into clogged pores and a dull complexion when cool weather arrives. Remember to exfoliate away this outer layer, doing so will help you not only maintain your radiant summer skin, but improve the ability of your skin to respond to the ingredients in your regimen and lock in healthy moisture. Now is the time to switch to a richer, creamier moisturizer.

Prevent dryness and flakiness by using a hydrating face mask or serum on a regular basis. And don’t forget to still wear sunscreen every day, even on the cloudy days!

Eyes

Cooler weather can dry our skins, especially the tender, delicate skin under your eyes. Make sure you use a moisturizer specifically for eyes. Get rid of dark circles and puffiness by applying an eye serum daily.

Hands & Nails

Washing your hands with soap several times per day in combination with the colder, drier air can take a toll on your hands in the autumn months. Plus, it’s easy to forget about maintaining your feet once you slip them into shoes or boots every day. Make sure to keep your hands and feet moisturized and exfoliated throughout the colder weather months. Look for ultra-hydrating ingredients like petrolatum and shea butter.

The colder air can also make your nails more brittle, so be sure to file them at least once a week to avoid breakage.

Stay healthy!

Staying active and eating right is the best way to glow throughout the colder months (even if all you want to do is curl up in bed and hibernate). Bundle up and go for a walk or even a run through your local park. When it comes to eating throughout the day, don’t starve yourself with fad diets. Eat regular, healthy meals that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids (walnuts, flax-seed, fish, soybeans, tofu)  and vitamins A, C, and E (cheese, eggs, yoghurt, oranges, red peppers, broccoli, spinach, sunflower seeds, almonds). And don’t forget to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated!
